Newt News

Last night, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich appeared on the Daily Show to promote his new book, "Never Call Retreat."

Does this butterfly think that Newt is testing the waters for a possible '08 run? Perhaps... we'll just have to wait and see what the tides will turn out for 2008 - I'm already predicting it to be a messy, messy election. Neither party has a strong candidate as of yet, and the country by then will certainly be ready for a change - no matter what your party ties.

Of course we must all remember that although Mr. Gingrich was a strong backer for reform with his Contract With America, he also has his "Bushism" moments as well. Remember this little gem?

"If combat means living in a ditch, females have biological problems staying in a ditch for 30 days because they get infections and they don't have upper body strength."

Said by none other than Newt himself. I believe the "infection" he is referring to would also be known as a "menstrual cycle." Besides, women aren't allowed in combat now as it is, and to top that - when was the last war we had where soldiers stayed in a ditch for 30 days?

Now, is this the kind of man that I want to be President? I don't think so.

If you want to bash Newt focus on his on going adultry while trying to impeach Bill Clinton. That is a reason to lose respect for the man. Please don't focus on a quote taken out of context on an issue that the military struggles with. First of all you have no clue how long american troops are in ditches, mountains, etc. The special operations units perform operations that the american public never hears about. Secondly women don't have the same upper body strength capacity, if you went to basic camp/boot camp you would see that on Day 1. Are there exceptions, of course there are just look at Mia Hamm. Next, the menstral cycle is a natural thing for a women, but it does present challenges for the military in certain types of combat. When american lives are involved every challenge needs to be analyzed however big or small. Second women ARE currently in combat. While the're not serving directly in the combat arm's units, the're in combat support serving as medics and other rolls on the front lines in the middle of the action. I respect this service as am sure you do, so please don't say they aren't in combat. Welcome to the blog, but you have some work to do on your story selections.

I agree the quote was taken out of context, but I was using it more for amusement purposes - not for a be all end all of why I agree or disagree with Newt and his politics. Hence why I labeled it a "Bushism" type comment. The comment about being in ditches for 30 days was also meant to be a humorous stab in response to his comment.

I also agree with you that women are in combat, perhaps I should have rephrased it to reflect that they are not necessarily in the front lines.

Thanks for the comments anon - duly noted.

Know your subject before posting a blog esp. about politics.

This blog was fantastic up until this article. It just amazes me to see how ignorant people really are out there. I mean this article is exactly the type of garbage I'm talking about! It scares me to think someone with not even an ounce of critical thinking capabilities is trying to influence the public. For example, there are no strong candidates for 2008. You mean to tell me that you haven’t heard of one strong candidate that is considering a run for office? How about the senate majority leader for starters (Bill Frist)? I don’t want to speculate on who will run because it is far too early, but being a sensible and patriotic American I think that out of our entire country we will have a set of dynamic candidates that make for a very strong election. Anyway, the women in combat issue…if you really feel that strongly about women being in combat, join the armed forces and get out there. There are women over there, and if you haven’t noticed this is a completely different type of warzone. Being an American woman working a civilian job is being in combat. Women were killed in combat at the Abu Garib prison insurgent attacks. Anyway, you probably wouldn’t know that because you are to short sided. Newt Gingrich takes some stabs at the Bush admin in his recent book regarding his policy on Iraq and the war. I wonder how far that will take him if he decides to run. Anyway, can the AsianMistress be booted?

I'm sorry you feel that way anon. I know as well as anyone that politics is a touchy subject and raises a lot of questions. The little blurb I have here about Newt was meant to be something light, but apparently I didn't make that clear enough.

As for strong candidates, of course there will be people to step up to the challenge in 08 - Frist included. I just meant that there was not one person that stood out in the eye of the media, or the public - as a definite home run for candidate. Although there has been a lot of buzz about some people (Clinton, McCain, Frist, etc...) - it is of course too early to tell.

Blogs are meant to be opinions or ramblings of the people who contribute to them...and that will have its high and low points with the people who read them. Everyone goes through it, and I'm new at this so I guess I hit a low point with this post, but don't worry - this butterfly will continue to spread her wings!

You're right, I'm new, and I'm learning. LDCD and S have graciously allowed me to write a few things, and I will continue to do so, despite the negative reactions from this particular post. I have received positive ones for others - it's all in the game. I'm taking this as a lesson learned and moving on, so should you anon.

The low point for this blog came when one of these dummies wrote that Danica Patrick drives on the NASCAR Circuit. From then on, everyone started to think that we were dealing with a couple of retards--a couple of dimwitted twits. It can only get better after that disgraceful, disugsting post.

anon, clearly it didn't keep you from reading? ;)

Anon: Let me advise you towards another direction that might fit your likings - www.nascar.com or http://www.indyracing.com/home.php..there are plenty of racing sites out there...so we will glady have you steer away from ours :-)

Thanks for the support anon 2 and cjt...

I think this issue is dead. Then again we thought the Nascar issue was as well, and look what reared its ugly head.

Negativity...where you goin? NOWHERE!

"Get over it, ladies. You fucked up and you know it."

Anonymous Douchebag - they do know it, they admitted it, and they corrected the mistake. It seems that you are the one who is not "over it." Besides it was an easy mistake to make.

To the other mouth-breathing morons - Anyone who gets that riled up over a lighthearted quasi-political post on a lifestyles blog needs an operation to remove the ginormous stick from their ass.

Nicely put underused!

At 5:41 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

They didn't correct the mistake to my satisfaction. These dummies should issue a formal apology to NASCAR, to IRL, and to Danica Patrick for fucking things up so badly. Until then, I won't be satisfied. It's to pay up.

"It's to pay up"?

Not the brightest, are ya?

Mr. Rude Anon: I love you. You keep me entertained. I love your pathetic stabs at our blog, when you are the one who keeps reading. I even tried to direct you somewhere else, and you keep coming back. Such a loyal butterfly blogger! Thanks so much! :-)
